Since most service stations today also sell convenience items such as snacks, drinks, and toiletries, you can get cash back on those purchases. They are often the bread and butter profit items for service stations whereas gasoline is the main focus of competition to draw in customers. Some service stations even offer made-to-order sandwiches and hot meals.
Cash back on your purchases effectively reduces the price you pay per gallon on your fuel pump purchases. While that is not the ideal, it can alleviate the impact of inflation at the pump.
