Save on gas by shopping weekly or biweekly
Little everyday trips to the grocery store may seem insignificant when it comes to lengthening the life of gasoline but, in all actuality, it is significant when it comes to saving on gas over the long haul.
Most people are aware that every time a car is turned on and off, backed-up and then driven forth, gas is being used…albeit even if just a miniscule amount. For those who do not have to worry about their finances very much, those facts may seem a bit trifle and nothing to worry about. However, for those who are trying to extend their in between visits to the gas station and who are taking advantage of the perks offered by gas rebate cards to save on gasoline, those truths are worth keeping in mind.
When living paycheck to paycheck, it would be beneficial to consider doing a once weekly or biweekly grocery shop to help save on gas. “But I’m to busy with my job, family, spouse, and friends to sit down and plan out a week or two of meals and then write a list.” I understand, believe me I do, but if you truly want to conserve both gas and dollars, it really is worth the effort.
Free recipe sites abound on the internet that are filled with economical food choices which are sure to please the taste buds of you and/or your family. Often times you’ll run across sites that have user rated recipes and also whether they are kid friendly or not.
Use those sites to your advantage and build upon the culinary knowledge you already possess! First find the recipes you think you and/or your family will enjoy (bookmark the page or print them off as you go) and make a seven or fourteen day menu. Next, make your grocery list. I prefer to print the recipes and check off the ingredients on those pages while writing my list simultaneously. I also use parentheses next to items like ground beef or chicken that are used more than once. That’s it as far as food goes. Remember to add non-food essentials such as toiletries and cleaners to your list as well.
To help increase your savings even more, opt to shop on the day or day after your local papers come out with coupons inserts which are generally Sundays and Wednesdays.
Of course you’ll need to make a couple of trips throughout the week for things that run out like milk, eggs, fruits, bread, and vegetables, but not to fret…you’ll have saved on fuel costs because you took the time to make a menu and did a “big grocery shop” which makes it affordable for you to do such.
